In the early 1980's the CAA was down sized to the Bureau of Air Transportation (BAT) and the MIA was made into an authority. A joke at that time was that employees working for BAT were amptly called "Bat Men".
Thereafter, in the mid 90's the BAT was further down sized and called the Air Transportation Office (ATO). Then by mid 2000 the ATO henceforth became the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). This authority must be distinguished from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB). CAAP is the regulatory agency in charge of the operational, technical & engineering aspects of the aviation industry while the CAB is in charge of the administrative aspect of implementing regulatory policies on airline operators in the country.
Maybe next time we will also have a Space Agency. Why not we start get a booking for the Moon or Mars? I heard the USA is accepting bookings as early as now. Joke? Nope! Surf the web and check it out!
