Aviation distinguishes itself from other industries by having their own brand of doctors. They are called Flight Surgeons. Every pilot has to do their Annual Medical as part of their license renewal. A doctor has to undergo a highly specialized training in the field of aviation medicine before he can become a Flight Surgeon. He is a well rounded doctor. He administers strict and rigid physiological and psychological examinations on every pilot. He checks every bit of the pilots anatomy inside-out before he is declared fit to fly. Pilots must be in excellent health at all times. They are constantly subjected to high degrees of stress and rapid decision making while doing cockpit management. Once airborne they carry a huge responsibility on their shoulders and must be abled bodied in mind and body always. That's why there is such a doctor trained and specialized to look after the well being of the supermen of the skies!
