Tilt Rotor Aircraft

This is the latest addition to the the Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing types of aircraft. The Tilt Rotor Aircraft is the best of both world's type of aircraft that incorporates the flight characteristics of both the helicopter and that of the fixed wing aircraft.

The first and only Tilt Rotor aircraft in operation today is the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey aircraft, which first flew on January 1985. While its civilian version is still being refined, the V-22 Osprey is currently being used by the US Armed Forces. It takes off vertically just like a helicopter and as soon as it has sufficient altitude, its twin engine nacelles rotate forward and speeds off like a turbo prop aircraft. It has twice the speed of the fastest civilian helicopter and has long range capability. It can take onboard 24 combat troops and 15,000 lbs. of cargo.

I am sure the development of a stretched and wider variant of the V-22 with a large passenger capacity is in the offing. This certainly would be the bus of the skies in the near future. Visit www.boeing.com
